about

As part of Stone Island Sound

In celebration of contemporary independent music, C2C Festival and STONE ISLAND are happy to announce ‘SOFFI’ by the contemporary artist Renato Leotta featuring Federico Bisozzi.

‘SOFFI’ is an arrangement from C2C Festival show happening on Saturday 5th November on the Stone Island Sound Stage. An unpublished extract from the ‘Concertino’ project, presented at the 17th Istanbul Biennial in collaboration with Castello di Rivoli.⁣

The whistle, achieved by the quick expulsion of the air from the lungs, makes a whirlwind which is moderated by the lips to create a sound. The album is about the sense of breathing during a dive between a wet world and a dry one, between blowing, snorting and apnoea.

The EP is part of a work which offers a possible form of inter-species communication, through the attempt to translate the inner structure of leaves of Posidonia Oceanica, a plant observed by Renato Leotta in a research study across the Mediterranean coastline. Soffi and Grantuffo are the results of an arrangement of the archive of the leaves studied in the sea spectrum between Augusta—Priolo in Sicily and in the Gulf of Gabes in Southern Tunisia

The arrangement, made together with Federico Bisozzi, offers a choral brass theme played by Roman Villanueva; an invite that introduces Soffi, six movements for whistles performed by Giuseppe D’Ortona “passerotto”.

All the revenues will be devolved to Mediterranean Sea protection projects
